It's Gonna be MAY!

May: the month filled with every single end of year party, assembly, and celebration all packed into 2 weeks in May.  It is super crazy with 3 kids at 2 different schools, but that's why I work from home-so I can be there!

Henry got his new kerchief!

Bennett went on a field trip with NEHS to the food bank to pack food boxes.
4th grade gateway got to choose an American landmark to research and present for "Living Museum."  Pearce, Brayden, Jayden, and Bennett chose Mt. Rushmore!  They looked so cute!

I had to get in this pic because we had been working on this and I wanted to be next to my boy!

Sister got to join us because she had a field trip at Norton Art Gallery after.
SK and I headed to Norton Art Gallery for her fun field trip with her class.

Tasting the honey!
I found a video that I won't post of her screaming crying in the gardens of the Norton.  Not sure why, but I picked her up and we left.  She did NOT want to leave the field trip, but when we behave in that manner-we can't stay.

We headed to meet Bennett's crew to celebrate Living Museum at Superior Grill.  I'm so glad they get to have a fun lunch after all that work!

After all the fun, we headed back to the hotel.  We got to our room and there was a giant storm, so the management made us all go into the lobby.  Ugh.  They brought out some games for the kids.

The next day Bennett got to have Sonic with Ms. Miller for reading 15 LYRC books!  Only 8 kids did it!  Go Bennett!

Our First Pinewood Derby

The boys worked hard and pulled off 2 cars for the Pinewood Derby.  Sadly, neither of our cars were winners, but we had fun!  It is a serious business at Pinewood Derby.  The rules are nuts!  I couldn't believe there were 2 pages of rules for a wooden block with wheels.  You can't have liquid lubricants or certain types of weights.  Once your car is officially weighed in you are not allowed to touch it again.  I just didn't realize how serious it was!

Each car raced 3 times (1 time per lane) and the fastest 3 went on to the finals of their grade.  Bennett got fastest in 1 heat, but that wasn't enough to qualify him.  Henry didn't win any of the rounds. :(  Since Henry's wasn't really competing "officially" his was sort of an afterthought.  Neil ended up taping keys and quarters to it to add weight.  He was proud so it didn't matter!

Nana, Granddad, and Gammy all came to see the cars race.  How sweet of them!

Heat 1!

Heat 2!

Heat 3!

Winner!!

Henry and his competitors!
Our boys walked away with participant ribbons and we headed to Another Broken Egg for a delicious brunch with Nana and Granddad.

Awww Yeah!

So proud!

Pinewood Derby Car Making

I've been hearing Neil and Richard talk about their Pinewood Derby cars since I met Neil.  I really had no idea what they even were.  Apparently it is a huge deal!  Families have their own designs, they get obsessed, and it gets really serious!  Richard came over to help build Bennett's car.  Henry was able to build one, too, for a sibling round!  What fun!

They drilled out holes in the bottom of the car and sanded it down for an hour.  Next came lead pouring, adding wheels, and painting.  Lots of work!

Neil melted lead on the stove using the same pot he and his dad used to use.  How sweet!

Neil poured it in the holes to make sure no one was burned!

Here's Henry sanding his.
More to come at the Pinewood Derby...
