A Night for the Fellas

It was Neil's turn for the Sunday school guys night.  Since Beau organized the House of Hope meal for the next night, they all prepped the jambalaya.  They also watched the National Championship game!

Movie Picnic Night

I set up a fun little movie picnic for the boys with popcorn and blankets.  I wasn't planning for Henry to have popcorn, but he was insistent!  He loved it.  I know it is a huge choking hazards for babies, but he was watched very closely.

I love that they are able to do things like this together!  Bennett woke up the next morning and said "let's have another movie picnic!"  Success!

Family Visiting

When we heard that Aunt Roxanne (Janine's sister) and her family were coming in town...we just had to rush to Ruston to see them.  We stopped by Neil's grandmother's house right before we went to Nana's.  How amazing is it that our boys have 3 living great-grandparents???  That's right, Neil has 3/4 grandparents.  I am jealous.  I was extremely close to my grandmother, Gammy so it is important for me that my kids see theirs!

They successfully beat a hole in Gigi's 60 year old tin drum that sits under her Christmas tree.

Gigi with the Lewis men!

We got to see Cousin Elliot and a bunch of other family.  I was busy chasing Henry and didn't have time to grab my camera!

Celebration of Life

On December 23rd, we received a call that my grandfather and only living grandparent had passed away.  It was expected because he has just been getting worse with each passing day the past couple of months.  We know he is not in pain anymore and we are glad for that.

I didn't really know my grandfather ("Grump") that well.. Yes, we made the trip to Alabama every year to see him, but we didn't know him.  I was so happy to hear all of the stories from Phyllis and Steve at his celebration of life.  He was a true patriot and loved his country.  He served his country proudly and even buried General Patton in Luxembourg.  Grump even had a fort named after him in Jackson, AL called the "Fort Guy French Armory."  He is the first and probably the last living person that will have one named for them.

Since Neil needed to work the last 3 days that his company was open and we needed someone to watch the boys...I went alone.  I met my mom and brother in Meridian, MS where we left my brother's car the day after Christmas. Unfortunately  my dad couldn't attend because his Aunt Ethelyn (age 98) passed away the same day and her funeral was the same day.  I was sad to miss her funeral. I have to admit how nice it was to drive 4 hours by myself, singing at the top of my lungs to old favorites like Celine Dion, Dixie Chicks, and old school rap.  I love busting out old college CDs!

We all got in the car together and headed to Oneonta, AL.  As we pulled in to Alabama...we had to pull over and do the self-timer in front of the Alabama sign.  Love this.

We stopped  in Birmingham for Anthropologie and a terrible dinner.  We laughed so much at the restaurant that it turned out to be fun even if we didn't leave full.

We arrived in Oneonta, AL around 9 pm, settled in for some cousin time and then went to bed.  We had the funeral the next day and boy was it family filled.  We all met at Ken's BBQ for lunch before heading to the funeral home.  We happen to see some other cousins there who were in town for the funeral.

We arrived at the funeral home and saw some lovely arrangements sent all the way from Shreveport and Ruston, LA.

The graveside was very impressive.  2 uniformed gentlemen came and played Taps and folded the flag and presented it to Uncle Wayne, Grump's youngest brother.  Grump is Uncle Wayne's hero.

Uncle Wayne was just beside himself that he received the flag. It is supposed to go to the next of kin or in Grump's case, his kids.  They all decided that Wayne should have it.  He said "I am very proud of this!"  It was the sweetest thing.
We had some comic relief during the funeral when Aunt Bonnie "whispered" very LOUDLY to her husband that she needed a kleenex.  It was hilarious!  He couldn't hear her so she got louder and louder.  Pretty soon everyone was handing over a kleenex to her.
Carrie and me with Uncle Mike...our favorite!
After the graveside service, we all headed back to Ken's BBQ for pie and coffee.  There were about 50 family members there and you could tell the workers were saying "Oh, no!  Not them AGAIN!"

Uncle Mike and Aunt Carolyn!  I love my mom's brother and sister!

Christmas Random

One of my favorite parts of Christmas this year was opening a card that has been sitting on our Christmas tree.  I was super thrilled and SHOCKED to open this little photo-shopped card of Leigh, Casey, Erinn, and me pasted into a San Francisco background.  All of our fabulous husbands surprised us with a girls trip to San Francisco!  We are staying with Neil's Aunt Elizabeth and taking a tour of Napa.  Eeeeeeeek!!  I can't wait!  Neil, you are awesome!

woooohoooo!!  I am sooooo excited!

I was super thrilled to open a gift that Bennett picked out just for me.  He even chose the  fun, dragonfly ornament to tie on to the package.

Cinderella!!  I will have to say Bennett has loved watching it with me.  He thinks the mice are hilarious!  It has brought back many memories from my childhood at my grandmother's house.  I used to love watching it there.

playing with the trash is better than the presents!

We are glad that Reid (Carolyn's grandson) came over to play.  He even brought the boys Cubs shirts from Chicago.

Shoe Night 2012

Shoe Night was a success again this year.  This is one of my absolute favorite family traditions.  This started with my dad's side generations ago and now I am continuing it!  I love having the Christmas Elf fill our shoes on Christmas Eve Eve to get Christmas started 1 day earlier.

You will always get an apple and a orange at Dad's

And frozen Frog gift cards!!??

yay!  Great Elf night this year.

Tis the Season to be Tacky!

Beau and Leigh host a tacky Christmas sweater party every year and we have had so much fun at it every year.  When they were invited to sit in box seats in Dallas for the Saints game...they had to cancel.  The Buteaus and Lewis' decided to host this year to carry on the tradition.

We hosted it at Erinn and Trey's and it was a success.  Erinn even had great ideas for a tacky photo back drop and a slideshow on their TV.  It was fun!

Here are the "tacky" desserts of Christmas Little Debbie snacks!

A shout out to the Montgomery's on screen!

We had elves gone wild...love it.

A cute hot chocolate bar

I made "poinsettia punch."
