Productive Weekend

I am so glad that I am finally starting to get some energy back! We have been busy bees this weekend. Friday, Nana and Granddad picked up Bennett and spent some time with him. We all went to dinner and then they headed back to Ruston. I think this picture is so cute of them!

Saturday, Neil headed out to the camp to hang a gate with Scott. Amy had on a shirt similar to one that I have, so I put it on so we could be twinkies. She was so excited about this! We took Bennett to run errands with us. We started at Tower to pick up books for Amy's class. Then, we headed to Milling Around!

Since Milling Around was having a totally awesome 25th birthday sale...I decided to get all I could this weekend. Everything in the store was 25% off! I love getting a bargain. Amy was such a HUGE help to me. I always need a second opinion on everything. She even watched Bennett while we selected fabric. We took the cushion of our new chairs/couch to match the accent fabrics. I can't wait to get them...they ship on 2/28!

We ended up selecting this great fabric with a Suzani pattern on it. I really like it! This is going to be the fabric on my new ottoman. I wanted to do something bold on the ottoman and keep the fabric neutral on the couch in case I ever want to change it...I won't have to change the whole place.

Here are the accent fabrics. It was so great because Connie Aclin happened to walk in Milling Around while we were checking out. She looked at my stuff for the pillows and my kitchen windows. She agreed to make the pillows and window treatments. So, I sent all the stuff with her. Well, she came over today to measure my windows and guess what she brought? My pillows!!! I was thrilled because she didn't even have the stuff for 24 hours! I love them and think they will go great with my ottoman.

I was up bright and early this morning before 7 making Bennett's valentines. We went to Sunday school and Neil led the lesson! He did a great job, but he said that he didn't think we was called to teach. I was proud of him for stepping up to the plate! After Bennett went down for a nap, I put together all of the bags for his class while Neil went to Lowes. He bought a tree and wood for my laundry room cornice. He even built the cornice and planted the tree today!

I can't wait to cover it with my new pink leopard print fabric. I will post on that as soon as I find my staple gun! :)

I ran out and got a rod for our panels for the dining room and Neil had it hung before I got back from taking dinner to the Douglas'! He was mighty busy today! I am so happy with how it turned out.
It is so nice to finally start getting things together for our new house. I have just not been feeling up to shopping. So glad my energy is returning!

Chocolate Covered Oreos

I found a cool website a few weeks ago that has molds to make candy, soap, cookies, etc. For Bennett's Valentine gift, I made chocolate covered Oreos using this heart shaped mold. The website even gives this great tutorial...but I thought I would post my own, too! I am posting this on Messy Aprons as well.

I bought the already colored melting candy at Michaels because coloring anything red is so hard!

You just put a little spoonful of candy in the bottom of the mold.

I found after a few tries, to tap the mold on the counter to get the air out...it also spreads it out evenly.

Place the Oreo on top of the melted chocolate.

Put another spoonful on top of the Oreo.

Tap it against the counter again and it spreads out so nicely! I put mine in the fridge to let them set and it only took about 10 minutes. I think they turned out so cute!

I hope they taste as cute as they look!

Neil and I were invited to a really fun wedding on Saturday. I used to work with Trish at Beneficial before we were shut down. We have kept in touch and she invited me to her wedding. She has been dating the same guy for about 12 years. They were ready to be married!!

Ruston Visit

On Saturday, we decided to head over to Ruston to visit Nana and Granddad. On the way there, Richard called Neil to tell him that Janine had gone to the grocery to get some things for Bennett. Neil told me "watch this." He told his dad that we left Bennett with my mom and were just coming to Ruston to look at furniture. His dad was shocked and couldn't believe we wouldn't "bring the baby" to Ruston. He even called Janine to tell her not to worry about getting anything at the store. He said "Can you believe they aren't bringing Bennett!!??" So we pulled up in Ruston with Bennett and they were thrilled. This proved what we already knew...no one wants to see us...just Bennett!

They wanted us to come over and look at furniture, too. We have not really had any luck looking in Shreveport. We found tons of great stuff at Bodie's Furniture in Ruston. For those of you that have come to our new house and sat on the floor...I am pretty sure I found chairs for the living room!

Gigi stopped by for a quick visit.

Nana and Gigi like to work puzzles with B

Sweet B giving kisses to Gigi

It only took Bennett about 3.2 seconds to destroy their house.

Last night we went out to eat to Raw, Ruston's sushi restaurant. It is very good. We had the Lewis roll which is named after Neil's family. I knew there was a reason that it was so awesome!

This morning, we got to eat Richard's blueberry pancakes. I always look forward to breakfast over there. Bennett knows that he can just about get away with anything over at Nana's house. He gets to play, eat, and watch whatever he wants. The life of a toddler must be sweet. Neil and I are just happy that people love our boy as much as we do!

Snow Day Fun

We had the privilege of having our second snow day today. It was so wonderful to have a free day off with my boys. We had so much fun playing in the snow. I woke up around 2 am to look outside and didn't see any snow...I was like a disappointed kid. But, when we woke up for the day...there was so much snow!
We got all bundled up and headed outside to play. I realized that we do not really have a lot of matching cold weather gear. Bennett had his footie pjs on under his pants and jacket. I had on several layers and so did Neil. Margaret told me a good idea to put the ziploc bags on your hands to keep your hands from getting wet. It worked really well!
I used the self timer for this family shot. Neil let me borrow his not-so-attractive hunter cap thing. It kept me really warm!
Here is our street.

This boy loved the snow!

Neil made a make-shift sled out of a swim school sign. It worked a little. Our driveway isn't exactly steep...but it worked for us!

Daddy threw snowballs. This "snow" wasn't really able to be packed. The snowman we attempted fell apart.

We decided that 20 minutes was long enough to freeze, so I made some cinnamon muffins...Messy Aprons Style. I used the left over batter to make this big heart shaped muffin.
We had a lot of visitors on our snow day. Hunter, Beau, Amy, Marge, Chris, and Annabella all stopped by to visit.
For dinner, we headed to the Raines' for chicken enchiladas. They were fabulous! I think they will make it on my weekly dinner rotation. The kids had a fun time sliding. Annabella held Bennett and Drew on the slide. It was so cute!!
